Alyssa Regent
Alyssa Regent began her undergraduate studies at Hunter College pursuing a degree in the sciences before discovering that composing was her true calling. Earning a Bachelor of Arts magna cum laude, Regent went on to obtain her Master of Arts in composition in 2022. During her time at Hunter she was awarded the Richard Burke Merit Scholarship and the Gloria Bierman Endowed Award from the music department. After finishing her MA, Regent was awarded a coveted spot in the Composition PhD program at Columbia University.
Regent’s passion for music started at a young age. Born and raised on the islands of Guadeloupe in the Caribbean, she has always been fascinated with all styles and genres of music. In 2019, she participated in the Porto Piano Festival as a student pianist and in 2021 she was a Fromm Foundation Fellow at the 77th Composers’ Conference in Boston. In 2020, she started her position as assistant conductor of the Hunter Symphony Orchestra.
Regent’s music draws inspiration from folklore and she approaches her art as a way of seeing the world. As a composer, her music has been performed by the Talea Ensemble, Connor Hanick, Emi Fergusson, and NMK Ensemble, among others.
