Deepak Rauniyar

A writer, producer, and director whose work in film, radio, and television production spans over two decades, Deepak Rauniyar earned his MFA in Integrated Media Arts at Hunter College in 2021, while teaching film studies. He came to Hunter already having debuted two feature films at top international film festivals. His debut film, Highway, premiered at the Berlinale in 2012, becoming the first Nepali film to compete at a major international film festival. White Sun (2016) won the Interfilm Award when it premiered at the Venice International Film Festival, and has since screened over 100 film festivals, winning major awards at Singapore, Palm Springs, and Fribourg International Film Festivals. His cinematic focus is the social injustice of racial and gender discrimination, and his work tackles questions of colorism, racism, and sexism within culturally rich and diverse narratives. His short film Four Nights (2021) premiered at the Berlin International film festival in 2022.
