Kaitlyn Greenidge

Accomplished author Kaitlyn Greenidge published her debut novel, We Love You, Charlie Freeman (Algonquin Books, 2016) after earning her MFA at Hunter College. The novel explores the legacy of the American eugenics movement, and also served as a meditation on language, family, and race. It was named one of The New York Times Critics’ Top 10 Books of 2016. Greenidge’s most recent novel, the critically acclaimed Libertie, received a starred review from Publisher’s Weekly, who called it, “another genius work of radical historical fiction.”

Greenidge returned to Hunter in 2022 to read from Libertie and talk with students as part of Hunter’s Distinguished Writer Series. She described Hunter’s MFA program as a place that gave her an “extraordinary community of writers and artists, and where generative conversations about writing and creativity continue to sustain me as a writer.”

She is the recipient of fellowships from the Whiting Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. Her essays have appeared in Vogue, Glamour, The Wall Street Journal, Elle.com, Buzzfeed, Transition Magazine, Virginia Quarterly Review, The Believer, American Short Fiction, and other outlets. Greenidge is currently a Features Director at Harper’s Bazaar as well as a contributing writer for The New York Times.
